What to Expect

Every December through March, thousands of Humpback whales migrate to the warm waters of Hawaii. Come along and catch these beautiful mammals at their best on our exciting eco-friendly whale watching excursions. Whales are also likely to be seen, though are not guaranteed, on all of our daytime adventures including snorkeling trips.

The tour usually begins with an introduction to the safety guidelines and a brief overview of the whales that you may encounter. Once the boat sets sail, the guide will keep a lookout for any signs of whales, such as blows, tail splashes, or breaches. The guide will also provide interesting information about the whales, their behavior, and their natural habitat.

As you get closer to the whales, you can expect to see these magnificent creatures up close and personal. You may witness them breaching, spy-hopping, or fluking, and you’ll be amazed at the sheer size and power of these creatures. You may also hear the sound of their vocalizations, which can be a thrilling experience.

In addition to whales, you may also spot other marine life, such as dolphins, seals, sea lions, and various species of birds. The tour usually lasts for a few hours.

If you don’t see whales on any of our “WHALE WATCH”-specific trips, come back again 1 more time for free! (Rerides only, no refunds. Reride is one time on a trip of equal or lesser value on Maui, The Big Island or Oahu. You may apply the value of your ticket to upgrade to any Hawaii Nautical trip)

Hawaii Nautical is one of Hawaii's largest ocean-activity providers.

We have a fleet of vessels islandwide serving many harbors across Oahu and the Big Island. We believe in delivering service, safety and the spirit of Aloha.
We respect the ocean and the ecosystem, and we follow strict guidelines so that all marine wildlife is protected. Additionally, we honor the host culture and support the local communities in which we operate.
We want the natural environment you enjoy today to be here tomorrow and for every tomorrow after.
That’s why we are Hawaii’s first Dolphin SMART-recognized operator. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Dolphin SMART program educates guests about dolphin conservation and advises not to seek activities that pursue close interactions like swimming with dolphins in Hawaii in the wild.
We also follow the guidelines of the Coral Reef Alliance, to establish lasting change and promote coral reef health around the world. That includes sustainable practices — such as not feeding fish. Coral conservation aims to save these valuable ecosystems, unite communities and preserve cultural identity.
For decades, we’ve been wowing guests of all ages in Hawaii. And while provide exciting experiences for our guests, we practice the highest level of safety in everything we do. We treat guests like ohana, the Hawaiian word for “family,” which permeates everything we do.
